I have some on the way from D&E now. I wanted to build one that shoots 22. I did not know untill after I ordered them that theirs uses 22 shorts. I started reading some of the forums and it sounded like the 22 guns were not as reliable as centerfire guns. I would love a full size 45-70 but ammo cost as well as size is an issue. A pistol caliber rimmed cartridge that is common and cheap sounds good to me. I am not concerned with it looking 100% authentic but would like it to be close.
I have found pictures and videos of full reproductions as well as 1off's people made from scrap laying around in a machine shop. The essential mechanism is the same but the cocking cam was essentially a flat piece if steel that catches a rear mounted firing pin sear. It was alot simpler to make than a milled arangement like on an original gun.At this point I am just gathering info to decide if I want to try to scale down and copy an original or build a simpler design of my own dimensions. If I come up with any I will pass them along. From what I am finding there are drawings on most models but there are only about 50-70% of the dimensions and some of the drawings always seem to be missing. I suspect I could still get one to work but it would be nice to have actual specs to draw from or actual parts to measure.I have a friend of a friend who owns a very nice original gun.
I have put in a call to see if I can get his contact info if he is willing to help. Unfortunately he is in another state so I dont expect more than photos and maybe some easy measurements. I will hopefully know tomorrow. American crime stories pdf descargar programa.
There are only 5 topics under original guns. The majority posted there is for 22 builds. That was where I was reading about all the issues people were having getting the 22s to work well. I figured if you buy plans and build according to them and still have alot of issues then i might as well go bigger and try to build what I want from the get go. It appears there is alot of tweaking to get them to work right. Scaling down an original seems a better option than one that was scaled down and changed from centerfire to rimfire.

I just like taking mine out and firing it,' explains Paul Moore, designer and builder of the gun. 'Sometimes people thinking of buying one will stop by, and we'll set it up and fire off a clip or two.'
Moore, an engineer and machinist by trade, fell in love with Gatling guns while watching cowboy movies as a kid. Years later, he built his first one from scratch, relying on pictures of different models introduced in the late 1800's.'
I realized a set of blueprints were needed, so I disassembled the one I had built and drew them up,' he recalls. For many years he built and sold fully assembled and partially completed versions of the guns in addition to parts and plans. Today he only sells the parts and plans.' My guns use the original gravity-fed, in-feed design, ' says Moore.
'The in-feed jams up easily, and then it has to be reset. It's just the way the original design works.' Selling the kits and plans ensures that buyers will understand and be able to fix the guns themselves. Kits consist of all hardware needed (screws, nuts, bolts, bushings, gears, springs and bearings) as well as rifled barrel liners and ground firing pins.
Brass and steel parts that need to be machined are also included. The only raw materials missing are some parts for the carriage and yoke mount. The smaller caliber dramatically reduces the amount of steel and brass needed. This cuts the full-size gun's 350 lbs. 'I recommend these guns only be attempted by someone with experience, like a retired machinist,' he says. 'I can only turn out about three a year. Working steadily on one, it will take about 600 hours to complete. Some customers have also successfully modified our plans to produce full-size versions'Even though the difficulty in completing a gun limits the market, Moore says he has sold more than 500 kits and some 8,000 sets of blue prints over the past 18 years.
The kit sells for $719, and the fully finished gun, when formerly. Plans and a CD of 3-D images of each part and assembly are also available.Contact: FARM SHOW Followup, RG-G, Inc., P.O. 22 Gatling Guns For Sale
As a newbie I am starting a long term project to build scaled down (.22 CALIBER) Gatling Gun. Does anybody have some experience and advice with the various plans on the market? I am currently looking at offerings from:D&E Modeling in Kentwood, LA.andRG-G INC.
In Trinidad, CO.or is there another source in the same price range for plans $50-$60 that is considered better???This won't be my first project but it will be one I will apply 'lessons learned' as I become (hopefully) more adept in machining. Thanks for ANY advice. I'M BUILDING ONE BASED ON RG-G PLANS.THIS IS NOT A CHEAP GUN TO BUILD.SCREWS, GEARS, BARRELS, MATERIAL AND TOOLING CAN EAT YOU ALIVE AND MY HOME SHOP IS VERY WELL TOOLED. MATTER OF FACT BETTER THEN ANY SHOP I HAVE EVER WORKED IN.
PEOPLE ALWAYS POST ON RG-G'S FORUM WANTING TO BUILD FULL SIZE ONES. THEY DON'T UNDER STAND WHY A FULL SIZE ONE CAN COST $75000.00 OR MORE. BUILD ONE AND IT WANT TAKE LONG TO FIGURE OUT WHY.I WOULD GO WITH THE PRINTS BECAUSE OF THEIR LARGE SIZE WHICH MAKES THEM EASIER TO STUDY.-'LET THE LEAD FLY!'
I have built the D&E gun, got the plans whenj Doug called the Company Model Engineering Plans. Have a friend who built the RG-G plans. After looking at both plabs and both guns I am glad i went with the D&E. Scale is better, plans are better, finished product is better, this is of course in my opinion only. Also, get the paper plans, again in my opinion. I am posting a picture of the gun on the workbench using walnut wood as opposed to oak, everyone else seemed to want oak but i liked the contrast of the brass against a dark wood. Email me if you have any more questions, I will try to assist if possible.
I will be in Tenn. Of next week so i may not reply for a few days so don't give up.
